Community
Delivering English Language, Custom and Culture To The Community. Rather than have our learners study in a typical school environment, we reach out into the community and deliver learning in a relaxed atmosphere. We often deliver classes in community centres, in local halls, as well as schools and similar easy to access venues that suit the needs of the learner and provide the opportunity to learn with others from around the world.
As with all our classes, they are designed to be welcoming and fun whilst retaining the serious need to learn and progress. Professional ESOL tutors are taught not just to deliver learning, but also to be mindful of the possible backgrounds of their learners. Some may come from
estranged and traumatic circumstances. The ESOL tutor will do everything he or she can to build genuine supporting friendships with those who attend the classes and ensure material is delivered at an appropriate level.
Making it easier and more relaxed. Delivering ESOL courses within the community is about more than simply delivering English Literacy. In addition, the tutor needs to be aware of significant cultural differences and potentially traumatic backgrounds of the learners. In addition, LifeSight Training believe that the needs of the learners goes beyond the need for qualifications. After research amongst learners, their goals have been found to be centered on becoming a part of English society; being able to communicate easily and simply to get a better job. With these goals in mind LifeSight Training delivers course completion targets and totally removes fear of examinations and classrooms.
How does it work? Local community organizations see the opportunity to develop their communities through the provision of English Language training courses. They allocate funding to meeting the heavily reduced course delivery rates and agree a course delivery contract with LIfeSight Training.
During an initial consultation with your company, the LifeSight Training ESOL tutor will discuss your requirements and present a proposal as to how those requirements may be met through one or more ESOL tutoring courses held on your premises.
Generally these courses consist of weekly two-hour sessions that are renewable subject to agreement. The first session consists of assessments to determine the current English
Literacy level of the learners which will provide the basis for delivery of the lessons over the coming weeks.
Removing any "fear" of examinations, LifeSight Training provide courses on a non-certified basis with the learners receiving a course completion certificate at the end of the course. Where learners have a personal interest in sitting examinations, they are assessed before recommending them to local colleges.
The only requirements from the learners are a) Pen, b) Paper and c) to attend and of course, participate! All teaching/learning materials are provided and are aligned to the ESOL Adult Core Curriculum provided by the Education Department.
The only requirements from the community organization are to provide an appropriate learning environment. Ideally this would include a projection surface, a whiteboard and of course, sufficient tables and chairs. The ideal class size would consist of eight members at any one time. Higher numbers may be accommodated with a volunteer from your company assisting the tutor. This also applies where one or more learners have extremely little or no use of the English Language.
