A Quick Look At iPhone Software

Starting life from the Mac OS X, the operating system installed on the iPhone uses an adapted version based on that software technology and uses Core Animation throughout. Core Animation provides what has become a much admired graphical interface on the iPhone's touch screen operation. It does this whilst keeping memory usage to the minimum possible. This leaves ample room for further applications to be added to the iPhone whether they are sourced from Apple themselves or from third parties.

The iPhone is closely related to the Apple iPod and its incorporation of iTunes. This enables an inter-system compatibility with other systems e.g. 32-bit Vista and Windows XP. The process of producing files for use on the iPhone does however require particular coding. The programming language AJAX is typically used with the Safari web browser being one such example.

A number of specifically written applications are already installed with the iPhone. These include the software for the calendar, camera, clock, iPod, iTunes, mail, maps, phone usage, photo handling, settings, Safari (web browser), stocks, text messaging and the unique YouTube application.

YouTube continues to grow in popularity with millions of videos available that contribute to the entertainment value that the iPhone has. When using your iPhone for YouTube access, videos are automatically extracted and made available for viewing. The later introduction of the iPhone 3G makes for even better viewing with its 3X faster access where an appropriate carrier is available.

Holding a video conference using a mobile phone was previously unheard of, but the iPhone makes this possible. Add to that, the further capabilities of call merging and appropriate application integration eg holding calls and caller id and you have a serious business tool. Visual voicemail takes it even further as they are available on screen rather than having to dial a separate number for access.
