iPhone Applications for the Health Conscious
Out of all the applications though, for the purpose of this article, we will concentrate on those to do with health. The first of these is “PointsCalc” - an application that will help you calculate nutritional value. All you need to do is enter the data relating to the food in question. Such data includes the nutritional values to be found on the labels. For example, how many calories, how much fat, fibre, etc. Note, with the application installed, there is no need to go online for such information when you are next doing your food shopping. It is all right there on your iPhone. A similar application is purpose designed for use in a restaurant called (appropriately) “ Restaurant Nutrition”.
Our next target is body fat. The application 2Fat estimates both body fat and body mass index (BMI). In a similar fashion to PointsCalc, you just enter the data and away it goes. This time, you enter your weight, gender and waist measurement. TIP: You may want to do this in secret!
Having determined your situation, you might set a goal to adjust your weight up or down. If you do, then the application called “Weight Tracker” maybe just what you need and does exactly what it says on the label. It also provides for an upload of your data to a website to record gym and diet progress.
Do you have one of those little books at home that gives you information about various medications and dosages? Well, now you can have 300 such medications listed right on your iPhone. Not only that, but it also displays the drug action on biological systems and any adverse effects the drug in question might have and even a picture. I am not sure how, but it will provide the opportunity to check the price as well. The application is “Epocrates Rx”.
These are just a small taster (forgive the pun) of how iPhone applications may assist you in living a healthy lifestyle. There are many more we could discuss, but I`m late for my McDonalds! Good luck.
