iPhone Battery Replacement

So, you've bought an iPhone, used it to the max and now the battery needs replacing but you have realized that the kind folk at Apple have not made battery replacement user friendly. Now what? You have to send it back to Apple.

Isn't that frustrating? Apparently, the good folk at Apple are still working on making the iPhone even better than it is which includes providing a battery that can be changed by the user. Behind the scenes, hackers are also trying to figure it out.

In the early days buyers were captivated by the capabilities of the iPhone and would often not realize that the battery replacement process would mean that they would have to make do without their phone whilst Apple sorted it out a process believed to take three working (business) days at a price that might take your breath away if it is not under warranty. The previous sales of iPod and the excitement that caused meshed with the excitement of iPhone capability and everything had the gloss of being wonderful. With a slim phone before the would-be buyer promising internet access, camera, media player, who would be likely to stop and think about the battery?

Apple have thought it through a little more however. They have not yet changed the battery replacement process, but they have made a loan iPhone available for three days – if you would like to pay an extra fee! Maybe this would be a good time to tell you that in replacing the battery, you are likely to lose all your personal data at the same time, so make sure you back up every little bit of data that you have stored on it before you send it off. That includes emails, music, photos, etc., etc.

There is an alternative route. You don't have to send the standard iPhone to Apple. You can order a battery pack from an independent supplier, but to fit it you are going to need to be good with a soldering iron!

So what do you think? Should Apple have made a point of letting us know about the battery replacement issue? Should they have made it clearer? Would you have bought an iPhone if you had known about it at the time? Whatever your thoughts, let's hope Apple get it sorted soon.
